Minecraft for education is a brilliant tool for the students in our classroom today. Many students in our classrooms have used Minecraft before and honestly, are better at it than us educators. In my classroom, we have learned about the stolen generations, specifically the rabbit-proof fence. Students have constructed the virtual world where Molly, Gracie, and Daisy grew up, were taken and walked to get home. This task opened my student's eyes to what these children went through. One the world was made we dropped other students from other grades into the world and presented the impact the stolen generation had on our country. Younger students were able to visually see the negative implications that choices can have.
Minecraft for education also has lessons for teachers to drop their students in. I do this and once my students have finished the activities they have to create their own. For example, there is a decimal dungeon for them to explore. Once they completed the tasks they created their own to test each other on the knowledge and skills.
